Media coverage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in ČT sport

This bachelor thesis deals with one of the most important global sporting events. Specifically, it examines the media coverage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar in ČT Sport. Using two sub-quantitative content analyses, the aim of this bachelor thesis is to determine what space was devoted to the 2022 FIFA World Cup on the ČT sport channel between 14 November 2022 and December 2022 (the week before the start of the championship and the week after the end of the championship), whether the 46 pre-match studios on ČT sport, which cover the televised matches of the World Cup in Qatar, give more space to the favourite teams or whether all teams are given similar space, and whether the controversial background of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is highlighted in the pre-match studios of ČT sport and, if so, in what context. The results of the analysis of the ČT sport programme showed that out of the 1 136 televised TV programmes in the defined period, 395 programmes were devoted to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. This shows that exactly 30 % of the programmes, which were broadcast during the specified period, focused directly on the events of the Qatar championship. The specifics of television road cycling commentary - comparative analysis of linguistic features used in live streams from the Tour de France

The main goal of this work is to analyze the linguistic features of road cycling commentary, as used by the Czech television's commentator Tomáš Jílek, and to observe the changes, that may have occurred in the ten years, that Czech television broadcasts the cycling race of Tour de France. The author firstly focuses on Czech linguistic theory, follows up with the theory of sports journalism and describes the specifics of spoken language used in the journalistic field. Furthermore, the author specifies concrete linguistic features, on which she then focuses in the analysis. The theoretical findings are thereafter applied and demonstrated in the analytic part of the work, which is focused on two race days selected from the Tour de France. Last but not least, the author compares the linguistic aspects of both commentaries and states other interesting outcomes of the analysis.
The growth in importance of the media social networking on the example of the 2015 IIHG Ice Hockey World Championship

This bachelor's thesis discusses the media utilisation of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter during a top worldwide sporting event. The theoretical part deals with the new media family, then with Facebook and Twitter, their history and operating principles. Besides the methodology, it also presents the 2015 IIHF World Championship, being the main subject of the social media networking. The content analysis of the social newtorks posts had been chosen as the research method for this thesis. The objective is finding out how these three chosen Czech media - Česká televize, news server iDnes.cz and Deník Sport were using the two social networks to inform the public about the tournament progress. The second goal was to compare the account contents of the three media to the two Czech IIHF Organization Committee channels and find out about the mistakes the media made while posting on social networks. The shovelware phenomenon is analysed extensively as one of the most used negative elements.
Media image of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in CT Sport

This Bachelor Thesis "Media image of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in CT Sport" deals with the overall concept of championship, that took place in China, and its presentation in CT Sport. The goal of this thesis is detailed analysis of television broadcasts and the work of moderators, reporters and commentators. The theoretical part defines the news values, concept of agenda-setting, framing and also insight into patriotism and mythology. There is description of the Czechoslovak history and Czech basketball, furthermore the first live stream and the process of basketball broadcasting in Czech televisoin. This basketball broadcast is being explored using qualitative content analysis. The results of the analysis describe the media image of the Basketball World Cup, how the pre-game studios took place, how much space was given to reports and interviews, and what was the role of commentators.
ČT Sport Newsroom without Editor in Chief.Where are its Limits?

This diploma thesis called ČT sport newsroom without an editor-in-chief. Where are its limits? focuses on the leadership of sports newsroom, which operated without editor-in-chief between the years 2013 and 2019. In January 2020 the sports department was reorganized thus there is the editor-in-chief at the head of the organization since then, who manages the organization in terms of journalism. The researcher paid attention to the analysis of both possible structures. In the theoretical part, the author describes possible organizational structures according to which the organization can be structured. She focuses on media routines and history and the presence of the sports newsroom, but she is mostly targeting the hierarchy of the department. The empirical part is based on 14 in-depth interviews with workers of the newsroom, who describe how the sports department works and point out the positives and negatives of the system. The research took place in two phases. The first one before the restructuring of the department, the second one a few months after. The result is, how the sports newsroom according to its employees worked in this kind of atypical structure.
Development of media coverage of Floorball in the Czech television

Title: Development of media coverage of Floorball in the Czech television Objectives: The main objective of this bachelor thesis is to determine the evolution of floorball medialization in Czech television, primarily between the years 2012 and 2019. Another objective is to determine how the medialization is perceived by executive committee of Czech floorball and by the top floorball clubs in the top Czech male floorball competition - Superlize florbalu and through the interviews to find out what is worth the fluctuations in broadcasting. Methods: To determine the development of medialization of floorball in the Czech television was used a method of internal data analysis, the data will be provided by the Czech television itself. The other method is an electronic survey, which was used to evaluate the perception of floorball medialization by selected clubs and executive committee of Czech floorball. Results: The space devoted to floorball on the ČT sport program has slightly increased between 2012-2019, except for the year 2015 and 2019. The media coverage of floorball is influenced by a major event such as the World Championship or the Superfinal since 2012. Most space is given to the highest men's competition. Comparison of media coverage of football, volleyball and floorball in selected media types in Czech Republic

The diploma thesis focuses on two different sports media ČT sport and Deník Sport. Based on the broadcasting program, respectively the content of individual copies, examines two selected periods of one year. The aim is to find out the content coverage of football, volleyball and floorball sports in individual media. The data is recorded in the coding sheet according to individual sports and media. Results are sorted by content type, content length and other selected criteria. The results bringing a very strong dominance of football topics in the printed media and a high share of content on ČT sport. Volleyball and floorball are considerably limited in the press, while on television they get their space, which, however, could be higher due to the player base of the two sports.
Comparative analysis of linguistic features used by sport commentators on Czech television and Eurosport during the 2018/2019 season

The goal of this work is to analyse linguistic features used by biathlon sport commentators on two television channels, ČT sport and Eurosport, further to compare them and try to show a realistic view on the lexical aspect of the Czech sport commentary. The author first focuses on the Czech language theory, then the theory of sport journalism and spoken language. She further selects categories of the most used linguistic features in the biathlon commentary and shortly characterises the sport of biathlon. The findings are then applied during the analysis of a specific commentary on both television channels, where the work focuses mainly on the demonstration and examination of earlier stated most frequent linguistic features. Because of the character of the work, which is comparative analysis, the author in the end focuses on comparison of linguistic aspects on both television channels. She also briefly covers the content and the phonetical aspect of the analysed commentary and the overall impression taken.
Comparison of broadcasting of Czech Television from Ice Hockey World Championship 2004 and 2015

The bachelor thesis Comparison of worldchampionship broadcasting on Czech Television from Ice Hockey World Championship 2004 and 2015 analysis the circumstances of the formation and the progress made by the mentioned television. The thesis is separated into two chapters. The goal of the first chapter is to define terms as sport media, televisual broadcast, broadcasting rights and sports journalism in its historical circumstances. The theory is describing the history of the Czech Television and its role in present society. The next part of these thesis is the chapter of the Czech Television sport channel, which describes its origin and the present condition. The theory is ended by the chapter of history of the championship broadcast, shortly describing the way of medial processing previous home ice hockey championships. The practical part of these thesis is formed as a qualitative analysis trying to ask the questions how and why the project World championship broadcast was created and what competences and responsibilities were rested in. The history of the sport department of czech television 1993-2015

This diploma thesis Historie Redakce sportu České televize v letech 1993-2015 describes the sports broadcasting in the Czech Republic (and Czechoslovakia) from 1989 to 2015. The author explains the most important milestones in the history of Sports Department of Czech Television. The description goes from the constitution of the department over the circumstances connected with the inception of the channel ČT sport, the changes in the organization, personal composition and editorial leadership up to the current form of the department. The thesis also contains the development of sports news, live broadcasts, television technology, Olympic Games, football and ice hockey broadcasts and the importance of the Internet utilization for sports department (abbr SD). The essential parts of this thesis are more than 30 interviews with editors of SD involving their own opinions, authentic experiences and stories. The thesis also reminds some of the long forgotten facts and answers many questions regarding sports broadcasting in the past, present and future including the outlook towards the year 2024.
